How to make a stunning canvass with an ordinary photo
04/07/2008 - By Natalie van Veen
The completed canvass.
Have you ever imagined how stunning your own photos could look in large format and printed on canvass? Thanks to the recent innovation of this technique in digital printing for home consumers, enlarging photos onto canvass is now easier than ever.
Even our local Harvey Norman and Retravision does it, so you don’t have far to look for a printing service.
Take a look at my example on this page and you will see how easy it is to transform what may seem a lovely but ordinary picture into something really special.
Step 1
Examine your personal photos for an original image that may be a candidate for your magnificent canvass. Remember you don’t need to look for a whole picture as you can have your favourite elements in the image cropped. To crop an image simply means to cut away or edit away (erase) the parts of the image that are not wanted.
Step 2
In my example, careful cropping out of the people in the background was done using Adobe Photoshop and to accentuate our couple and allow a far more intimate picture to emerge.
Step 3
If you have a digital copy of your photo ready to print, or even if you only have a hard copy of a photo, take either to your local printing service. If you edited your photo at home then your only instruction need be to order the size of canvass. If you have a hard copy, just ensure you provide clear instructions on exactly what you would like to have cropped from the image and then the size of canvass you would like to have printed.
Step 4
Hang your stunning canvass on a wall at home where everyone who visits can see it. In my example, the hallway entrance was the perfect position.
